With the production of The Rise of Skywalker, we are brought full circle to the end of the Skywalker’s plots, and the final destruction of Emperor Palpatine, the wicked mastermind of the Sith Empire. And while the sequel trilogies has its own share of flaws, the world-building is something to be admired. It’s no surprise that there are several scenes set in the desert, each paying homage to the original trilogy in some way.
Lido Hey, written by Lin Manuel-Miranda, was featured when Rey, Poe, Finn, Chewbacca, and BB8 reach the Forbidden Desert on the planet Pasana. Their visit coincides with the Aki Aki Festival of the Ancestors, a lively celebration that only takes place every 42 years.
The musical piece is greatly in line with the setting itself, rhythmic and stirring with a middle eastern flair to it. The festival commemorates the past, while also incorporating the theme of rebirth and new life.
