Welcome to my site! My name is Grace Ha, a junior at Scarsdale High School in New York. My current interest right now is anthropology with a focus on ethnomusicology, or the study of how culture and music have evolved together. Music has played a strong influence in my life, and recently, I began to analyze the various aspects of the songs I listened to. I also did background research in order to understand each song in context.

In order to fully understand the field of ethnomusicology – a subfield of anthropology, I looked to the following websites from google to ascertain the definition.

After some careful reading, I determined that ethnomusicology involves the following:

• A culturally contextual understanding of music.

• The study of music as an aesthetic practice and a social power.

• How music reflects, references, and inflects upon our human condition.

In short, ethnomusicology is a deeper look into the evolution of human culture, and how music, a key form of expression, has evolved along with it.

Ethnomusicology is such an exciting field for me for two reasons; our world is incredibly diverse, and each new race has a long history worth researching. I love how ethnomusicology combines anthropology, a social science, and music, a long-term hobby. I have decided to analyze the music from a very popular movie series that has become popular with audiences of all ages: Star Wars. No doubt known for its high level of world-building, complex plot, and unique cast of aliens and droids living in a galaxy far, far, away. I have no doubt that the music featured in the nine movies created thus far has some ties to the cultures we know today. I have created this blog in order to analyze the music of the sci-fi trilogy we know and love, and hopefully learn a few new things myself. Enjoy
